The ESJF has restored the fence around the Jewish cemetery in Slavkov u Brna, the Czech Republic

Many Jewish cemeteries in the Czech Republic still retain parts of their original stone walls. The cemetery in Slavkov u Brna is one such site, surrounded by a historic wall that had unfortunately begun to deteriorate over time. In such cases, the ESJF works to protect these cemeteries by restoring their original walls. This was the approach taken here, and now the cemetery is once again fully protected on all sides.

We are deeply grateful to our local partners at the Federace židovských obcí v ČR (Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic) for their collaboration in this important endeavour.

The Jewish cemetery in Slavkov u Brna was established in 1744. Around 300 tombstones have been preserved, and the oldest monuments, dating from 1735–1736, were transferred here from the old cemetery. In the center of the cemetery, a monument honoring the vanished Jewish community was installed in 1994.
