In 2025, the ESJF conducted a comprehensive survey of Jewish cemeteries across the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Preparatory work took place from January to June, and fieldwork was carried out from July to November 2025.
During the survey, 129 Jewish burial sites were identified, visited, and documented, resulting in the most accurate and complete inventory of Jewish cemeteries in Serbia to date.
The main partner in this undertaking was the Jewish community of Novi Sad, whose knowledge of the region and cooperation in the field proved essential, particularly in Vojvodina, where the overwhelming majority of Jewish cemeteries in Serbia are located.
Drawing on the survey findings, Kateryna Malakhova, ESJF Director of Historical Research has prepared a comprehensive report that provides accurate information on the locations and current condition of all known Jewish cemetery sites across Serbia. The report is now available here: https://www.esjf-cemeteries.org/book/?id=60649
The ESJF wishes to express its deep appreciation to Ladislav Trajer, President of the Jewish community of Novi Sad, for his strong and committed partnership throughout this project and to (Auswärtiges Amt) German Federal Foreign Office for its continued support of the work of the ESJF.
