Among the speakers were H.E. Hubert Knirsch, Ambassador of Germany to the Republic of Moldova; H.E. Yoram Elron, Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Moldova; Victor Gonta, Mayor of Mărculești; and Alexandra Fishel, Educational Projects Officer at ESJF. The ceremony concluded with a memorial prayer led by Chief Rabbi Mendel Axelrod. For the first time in many decades, Jewish prayers were heard once again at this Jewish cemetery.
As part of the event, participants also visited the Holocaust Memorial and the local Museum of Jewish History, where they laid flowers and stones in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
Earlier that day, ESJF organised a series of three lectures for local residents at the local museum, focusing on the history of the Jewish community of Mărculești, the importance of preserving Jewish heritage, and the role of Jewish cemeteries in education.
