The Jewish cemetery in Sremska Mitrovica is now fully fenced!

The ESJF had just completed the fencing of the Jewish cemetery in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. The site contains around 30 tombstones, mostly from the first half of the 20th century.

Bordering residential houses, the cemetery is now protected from any future construction or expansion nearby. This means the tangible heritage of the Jewish community of Sremska Mitrovica, which once included families from nearby villages such as Erdevik, Martinci, Grgurevci, Čalma, and Laćarak, is now safely preserved.

The fencing of the Sremska Mitrovica Jewish cemetery was funded by the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office) and made possible with the support of our partners at the Federation of Jewish Communities in Serbia, especially our country coordinator, Ladislav Trajer.
