We are happy to announce that with the completion of the fencing project at the Jewish cemetery in Sobrance, all six planned projects in Slovakia for 2025 are now finished.

Jewish cemeteries located near roads are vulnerable to damage from traffic accidents or road expansions. The Sobrance Jewish cemetery is also situated next to a road, but it is now protected by a sturdy metal fence that safeguards it from these risks.
This burial site was most likely established in the second half of the 18th century. Today, approximately 150-200 tombstones remain, with the most recent dating to 1943.

The fencing of the Sobrance Jewish cemetery was funded by the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office). We are grateful for the cooperation of our partners, Židia na Slovensku (the Federation of Jewish Communities in Slovakia), and our national coordinator, Henrich Stern.
