The ESJF workshop took place at the Shatava Jewish cemetery

The ESJF workshop took place at the Shatava Jewish cemetery, which we had previously fenced and where an informational sign was installed.

Local teachers and students were shown how to interpret the symbols on ancient matzevot and taught how to calculate dates of death. ESJF manuals were shared to assist them in further exploring the cemetery.

The timing of the event was chosen to allow students from the International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies to join.

The workshop was led by Eugene Levinzon, a research fellow at the Kamianets-Podilskyi State Historical Museum-Reserve.

The ESJF is grateful to the Makiv Village Council for the invitation, warm welcome, and for maintaining the cemetery in good condition.

We would like to sincerely thank the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office) for funding this educational event.
