The ESJF was invited to lead an online workshop on reading and interpreting Jewish epitaphs, as part of the Conservation and Restoration Camp in Romania

The session was conducted by Esther Zyskina, a renowned expert on Jewish cemeteries and Hebrew epigraphy.

The camp is currently underway at the Jewish cemetery in Alba Iulia, running from July 21 to 30, 2025. ESJF manuals were also sent to the participants to assist them in further exploring the cemetery.

Organized annually by the “1 Decembrie 1918” University in collaboration with the National Museum of the Union, the camp brings together students, professionals, and volunteers to focus on the restoration and preservation of individual tombstones, general site maintenance, and a series of lectures and study sessions.

We sincerely thank the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office) for their continued support, which has made this workshop – part of our wider program – possible.
