Despite a challenging start, when a power outage hit just as the event began, the opening ceremony featured warm welcomes from a distinguished group of speakers: Alina Sushko, Deputy Director, Museum of Kyiv; Philip Carmel, CEO, ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative; Heiko Thoms, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Ukraine/Deutsche Botschaft Kyjiw; Mila Tzur, Deputy Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ukraine – Israel in Ukraine; Albertina Piterbarg, Programme Coordinator for Documentary Heritage Preservation, UNESCO Representation in Ukraine UNESCO Ukraine; Milena Chorna, Head, Ukrainian Museum Association; Olena Zaslavska, Administrative Director, International Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Jewish Studies and Olha Vasylevska Smahliuk, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament and Co-Chair of the “Ukraine-Israel” inter-parliamentary friendship group, and Roman Malenkov from Kyiv’s Department of Cultural Heritage Protection. The United Jewish Community of Ukraine was a partner in this event as well.

We were honored to welcome Eva Heizerne Hegedus, First Secretary for Culture and Education at the Hungarian Embassy Magyarország Nagykövetsége, Kijev, who joined the opening.

A huge thank you goes to our moderator, Yaroslav Likholietov from the Ukrainian State Institute of Cultural Heritage, who alongside Alexandra Fishel, ESJF Educational Projects Officer, skillfully guided the day’s sessions.
