An online workshop on reading Jewish epitaphs, focusing on tombstones from the Jewish cemetery in Rivne, took place, with around 20 participants joining us.
During the session, Alexandra Fishel, ESJF Educational Projects Officer, taught participants how to identify key information on Jewish tombstones, interpret symbols, and calculate dates of death using the Hebrew calendar.
From the enthusiasm of our participants, we saw that this workshop was valuable for all participants – the Rivne Jewish cemetery revitalization team, Rivne residents, and others from across Ukraine – helping them better understand Jewish cemeteries and take part in preserving them.
As part of the “Re_HERIT2.0: Common Responsibility for Shared Heritage” project (Lidiia Voitiuk), this workshop was organized in partnership with the ESJF and supported by the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office).
