The ESJF has fenced the Jewish cemetery in Dobšiná, in the Košice region of Slovakia

Today, there is no Jewish community in Dobšiná. However, at the beginning of the 20th century, more than 200 Jews lived in the town. They built their institutions, lived alongside their neighbors, maintained their traditions, and buried their deceased there.

The Jewish cemetery in Dobšiná was established in the late 19th century. Today, 31 tombstones remain, dating from the late 19th century to the 1930s.

The Jewish burial site in Dobšiná is located within the municipal cemetery. To reach it, visitors must turn left after the main gate and walk uphill toward the wooded area. The Jewish section was separated from the Christian cemetery only by woodland and is now clearly marked by a newly installed metal fence.

The fencing of the Dobšiná Jewish cemetery was funded by the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office). We are grateful for the cooperation of our partners, Židia na Slovensku (the Federation of Jewish Communities in Slovakia), and our national coordinator, Henrich Stern.
