The ESJF has fenced the historic old Rashkov Jewish cemetery in Moldova

Rashkov is one of the oldest centers of Jewish life in the region. The old Rashkov Jewish cemetery once served a large Jewish community, and around 1,000 tombstones have been preserved there. Moreover, it is a major site of pilgrimage, as it contains the grave of Rabbi Shabtai of Rashkov (1655–1745), an early disciple of the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism.

The fencing project at the old Rashkov Jewish cemetery, completed this July, was funded by the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office).

The ESJF extends its sincere thanks to the Jewish Community of Moldova, our country coordinator Pavel Tuev, and the local authorities of Rashkov for their support and collaboration.
