The ESJF has completed the regular cleaning at the Nadvirna Jewish cemetery in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Steven Turner from Gesher Galicia for funding this important work. Ongoing care for the cemetery is one of the ways we can honor the memory of our ancestors.

Back in 2019, the ESJF safeguarded this final testament to the Jewish community in Nadvirna by fencing the cemetery. This was made possible thanks to the support of Steven Turner, who co-sponsored the project, and Leslie Nolan Nolan from the U.S. Peace Corps.

Jews first settled in Nadvirna in the 18th century. By the end of the 19th century, more than half of the local population was Jewish. However, in 1942 the community was completely wiped out in the Shoah.
