Ten educational events across Serbia were organized by ESJF together with local partners (Jevrejska Opstina Novi Sad) in towns where we had previously installed fences around Jewish cemeteries.
More than 300 students, teachers, local residents, media representatives, members of the Jewish community, municipal officials, and civil society organizations took part in the events in Silbaš, Pivnice, Djurdjevo, Kać, Budisava, Savino Selo, Zmajevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Čerević, and Šid.
In each location, during the program, Ladislav Trajer, President of the Jewish Municipality of Novi Sad, presented information about the inscriptions and symbols found on Jewish monuments, while Dr. Gordana Todorić delivered a lecture on the history of the Jewish community in Serbia and the importance of fostering a culture of remembrance. The events concluded with guided tours to the Jewish cemeteries.
The educational event in Kać was attended by Her Excellency Anke Konrad, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Serbia, Her Excellency Avivit Bar-Ilan, Ambassador of Israel to Serbia, Žarko Mićin, Mayor of Novi Sad, Pavel Voronin, Cultural Attaché of the German Embassy in Serbia, Petar Đurđev, Advisor to the Mayor of Novi Sad, and Miloš Asurdžić, Director of the Public Utility Company Lisje.
These educational events, as well as the fencing projects at Jewish cemeteries across Serbia, were made possible with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.
