Historical overview
The Jewish cemetery of Zsarolyán was established as early as 1894, since it appears on the cadastral map of that year. The cemetery appears to have been demolished, and no legible tombstones which could supply additional information about the cemetery’s period of operation have been found.
The Jewish community in Zsarolyán never exceeded more than 28 people and, as such, the community came under the jurisdiction of a larger Jewish community. According to the Yad Vashem database, about 20 Jews from Zsarolyán were murdered in the Holocaust.
