General site condition
This a demolished Jewish cemetery. After WWII, the cemetery area was registered as state property. The state then sold it to a private owner and it has been privately owned since. ESJF surveyors interviewed a woman living in house no. 73, next to the cemetery. She told us that during WWII, the Nazis took most of the matzevot and used them for building the roads. When it became private property, the owner destroyed all other traces of the cemetery using an excavator. The woman also said that she remembered bones on the cemetery area after the excavation works. She did not know what the owner of the land did with the bones. She claimed that there are some remains of the matzevot somewhere in the former cemetery area but did not know exactly where they were. She further related that there was a WW1 military section inside the Jewish cemetery. The owners of the land where the cemetery is located would not permit entry to the property.
