Historical overview

In the 1930s, the cemetery occupied a plot of 14 ares. There was a funeral home on its premises. In 1943, the building was taken over by the Gestapo. On March 21, 1944, the land was sold to the town of Szprotawa for RM 420, and the funeral home for RM 120. On April 21, 1956, the Presidium of the Municipal National Council in Szprotawa adopted a resolution to close the cemetery, and on March 10, 1961, the Minister of Municipal Economy issued an order in this matter. The object underwent extensive destruction. In an unspecified time, the funeral home was pulled down. In the 1980s, the area was overgrown with dense vegetation, which made it impossible to penetrate. Within it, there are several dozen tombstones in the form of concrete frames of graves, sandstone steles (including: Robert Danziger, Beate Rinkel, H. Sachs née Lange, died in 1864; Efraim Levy, died in 1873; Pesy Trier, died in 1880; Selmy Wiener (?) née Schoen, died in 1886) and the architectural tomb of the Oppenheimer family. The tree stand consists of hornbeams, chestnut trees and lindens. Basic cleaning works have been carried out at the cemetery since the 1990s. In 1993, the area was cleared and fenced by volunteers. For several years, the cemetery was looked after by students of the local school under the direction of Zdzisław Popieniuk. In 2020, cleaning works were carried out by the Municipal Office in Szprotawa.
