General site condition
The Sobienie-Jeziory Jewish cemetery is situated in the village of Baranowka (Gmina Sobienie-Jeziory) in the pine forest behind the Christian cemetery. From the north-west, the cemetery is adjacent to residential private houses. The cemetery area was demolished during WW2, but relatively recently (2003-2009) it was restored and several hundred matzevot were transferred to the cemetery.
Number of existing gravestones
No tombstones in-situ have been preserved. More than 300 (NID mentions 500) tombstones were returned to the cemetery area in the early 2000’s. In 2003, at the initiative of a local priest, several hundred matzevot were transferred to the cemetery. In 2009, matzevot from private properties were transferred to the cemetery. The tombstones (mostly fragments) are placed in rows and piles among the pine trees. A list of the tombstones is available at https://tinyurl.com/3tvmj75j
