Historical overview

The Jewish cemetery of Ramocsaháza was established as early as 1841, which is the date marked on the oldest tombstone found in the cemetery. The latest gravestone was erected in 1941. Some sources claim there are up to 250 graves in the cemetery, though currently only 34 have been discovered.

The first Jews are said to have settled in Ramocsaháza around 1770. In 1840, the Jewish population in the village numbered 22 people. 121 Jews lived in the village in 1910 and decreased to 90 by 1941. During the war, the Jews of Ramocsaháza were taken to the Kisvárda Ghetto and then were deported to Auschwitz. After the war, 6 Jews returned to the village.
