Historical overview
Podravske Sesvete is a municipality in the Koprivnica–Križevci County. That village was first mentioned in 1334. In 1552 the local castle was ruined by Turks but the village wasn’t damaged. After the liberation of the region from the Ottoman rule the village was under the administration of the Austrian army. Only at the end of the 19th century the village received a civil administration. There were 1625 inhabitants there in 1857. In 1910 the population of Podravske Sesvete counted 3355 people, the most people being Croatians. The local Jews belonged to the Jewish Community in Virovitica. The Jewish cemetery was established in the 19th century and exists till nowadays. The latest date on the tombstone is 1944 and the Jewish cemetery wasn’t in use after the end of the WWII. Today that cemetery is a part of the local municipal cemetery of the village.
