Historical overview

Only one of the surviving tombstones bore a legible inscription. Another of the stones lies partially embedded in the pathway. Locals appeared uncomfortable with the presence of the survey team, and it is likely many of the tombstones on the site have been stolen. According to the Commission on the preservation of the Jewish Heritage, the cemetery was established in the early 19th century. The cemetery was attacked during WWII. The cemetery can be found marked on maps of the region from 1870 and 1940, with the former specifically indicating that the cemetery was Jewish.
