Historical overview

In 1847, Nemunaitis (Pl. Niemonajcie, Yid. נעמונײַץ) had 225 Jews. The synagogue was built in 1838. In 1897, the Jewish population was 361, or 49% of the total. The congregation was Jewish Orthodox. There were 15 Jewish families at the beginning of WWII. All of them were killed in 1941 after the arrival of German troops.
