Cemetery Information
Historical overview
The Jewish cemetery in Kocsord’s appears in the zstm.hu database. Another location is given (at the following link http://www.izraelitatemetok.hu/index.php/kocsord/) which notes that the cemetery was located at the end of the local Roma neighbourhood. The survey team chose the former location. According to Nagy Elek there used to be a cemetery in Kocsord which was demolished later, and it is alleged that the person who demolished the cemetery was tried and sentenced to prison. The cemetery was possibly founded after 1891, since it does not appear on the cadastral map of that year. It was destroyed at an unknown time, most likely during World War II or soon after.
By 1828, the village of Kocsord already had 47 Jewish residents. In 1880, the total population of the village was 1,549, among whom 73 were Jews. In 1941, there were 60 Jews in the village. The Jewish inhabitants of Kocsord were deported from Mátészalka on May 25, 1944.
