Historical overview

The old Jewish cemetery in Giżycko was located at the former ul. Ełcka (Lyckerstrasse), behind house no. 16, near the windmill. Most likely, it occupied a part of a sandy hill where the plague was buried at the beginning of the 18th century. Probably in the 1860s, there was not enough space for further burials. Today, in this area, at the intersection of Warszawska and Wodociągowa Streets, there is a water tower. (sztetl.org.pl)
