Historical overview

In 1816, the Jews of Gębice established a cemetery at today’s Leśna Street, by the road to Zbytowo. After the outbreak of World War II, Jews from Gębice and Kwieciszewo were displaced to the ghetto in Piotrków Trybunalski, from where they were sent to the extermination camp in Treblinka. Only one family survived the Holocaust – the descendants of the Itzig family, who returned to Gębice after the war.
