Leading experts from five world-renowned institutions gave lectures at the international seminar, “Using Gravestones and Memorial Plaques as Research Tools: Insights from International Experts on Jewish Cemetery Research.”

This kind of inter-organizational cooperation and the opportunity to share experiences with a wide audience are important steps toward the long-term protection of Jewish heritage!
Nolan Altman (JewishGen), Dr. Vladimir Levin (The Center for Jewish Art at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Prof. Haim Saadon (The Documentation Center on North African Jewry in WWII North African Jews during the Holocaust), Dr. Serafima Velkovich (Yad Vashem Archives, Yad Vashem: World Holocaust Center, Jerusalem), and Dr. Kateryna Malakhova (ESJF European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative) shared their diverse expertise and presented various data sources.
A total of 55 participants signed up for the event. Thank you to everyone who joined!
This seminar was organized through the joint efforts of Dr. Serafima Velkovich, Head of the Family Roots Research Section at Yad Vashem Archives, and Alexandra Fishel, ESJF Educational Projects Officer, with financial support from the Auswärtiges Amt (German Foreign Office).
