Earlier this summer, ESJF held a field camp on Jewish cemetery preservation in Kryzhopil, bringing together students from across Ukraine. Over three days, they explored the Jewish cemeteries in the nearby village of Zhabokrych, where ESJF installed a fence last year, and in Kryzhopil itself.
After examining the old wall around the cemetery in the town, which had almost completely fallen apart over time, it was decided to replace it with a new metal fence, which was made possible with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office.
The Jewish cemetery in Kryzhopil contains around 500 tombstones dating from the late 19th century. It remains in use today. The site is located alongside a road, which put the graves at risk of damage from road accidents.
