In Bălți, Moldova, ESJF educational seminar on the preservation of Jewish cemeteries and museum collections took place

Among the speakers at the opening were Andrei Chistol, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova Ministerul Culturii al Republicii Moldova; Alexandr Petkov, Mayor of the Municipality of Bălți Primăria municipiului Bălți; Robert Althaus, Cultural Affairs Officer at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Moldova; Alexandra Fishel, ESJF Educational Project Coordinator; and Riva Koksharova, Program Coordinator at the Еврейская Община Молдовы / Jewish Community of Moldova.

The two-day event brought together museum workers and directors from across the country – from Leova to Fălești.

Throughout the seminar, participants discussed the history of Jewish communities in Moldova and the importance of preserving cultural and historical heritage. They also took part in a practical session and the guided tour “Jewish Bălți”, which included a visit to the local Jewish cemetery.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our lecturers – Dr. Roman Rabinovich, historian and coordinator of the Jewish Museum in Orhei, and Mariana Mihalevschi, Director of the Museum of History and Ethnography in Bălți (Muzeul de Istorie și Etnografie).
