For the first time, ESJF held an educational event in Romania, bringing together 40 educators and tour guides from several regions where we are fencing Jewish cemeteries

The seminar on the preservation of Jewish cemeteries organized in collaboration with Oradea Heritage (The Foundation for the Protection of Historical Monuments in Bihor County, Janó-Ierina Raluca), the Jewish Community of Oradea (Comunitatea Evreilor din Oradea & JCC Oradea, Robert Rézműves), and the Bihor County School Inspectorate. The event was made possible with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Her Excellency Angela Ganninger, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania Ambasada Germaniei București, who sent a video address to the seminar participants. We also thank Robert Schorr, Director of the Jewish Community of Oradea, and Alexandru Chira, Director General of Visit Oradea, for welcoming our participants at the opening.

Our warm thanks go to our lecturers and tour guides, who led participants through the rich history of the Oradea Jewish community and its cemeteries: Prof. univ. dr. Daniel Dumitran, Janó-Ierina Raluca, Alexandra Fishel, Flavia Matei, Dr. Cecília Hausmann, and Dr. Felicia Grigorescu.

The positive feedback we received at the end of the seminar shows that the knowledge gained by Oradea’s educators and tour guides will be of real benefit in their future work.
