As fencing work continues at the Skala-Podilska Jewish cemetery, we’re sharing drone images taken a few years ago to show the vast scale of this historic burial site in Ukraine.
The oldest tombstone at the Skala-Podilska Jewish cemetery dates back to 1581, with more than 130 matzevot still standing. The remnants of many others, which were stolen for construction during Soviet times, have since been brought back to the cemetery by locals and are now preserved there.
The cemetery had an old fence that wasn’t sufficient, so the ESJF is removing it and building a new, secure one.
This ongoing project is made possible thanks to the generous donation from Tony Hausner and the Skala Research Group. The ESJF is also grateful to the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office) for its continued financial support of our work.
