ESJF’s EU Masterclass in Moldova takes place

Over the past two days, it has been a great pleasure to host our second European Commission Masterclass and the first of the series to take place in person for local engaged leaders in Chișinău, Moldova.

After an opening statement from Ion Duminica, Director of the Center for Ethnology of the Institute of Cultural Heritage, participants learnt about Jewish history and heritage in Moldova, the importance of Jewish cemeteries within Moldovan cultural heritage and good practices in preservation efforts. On both days participants visited local Jewish cemeteries using the knowledge they had developed during the sessions and had meaningful discussions on the status of Jewish cemeteries in Moldova.

We would like to thank Irina Shikhova and the Center for Ethnology of the Institute of Cultural Heritage, who co-organised this event as well as all those who attended and participated actively in the sessions. Following this event, we are optimistic that we have imparted knowledge onto those responsible for ensuring the future of Jewish cemeteries in Moldova and look forward to seeing the results in the near future.
