In total, we received about 80 applications from over 30 towns across the country — a clear sign of the strong and growing interest in protecting Jewish cemeteries.
At the opening, the guests were addressed by Christiana Markert, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany (German Embassy Budapest); Prof. Dr. Andor Grósz, President of the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (MAZSIHISZ-Magyarországi Zsidó Hitközségek Szövetsége); Vince Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Deputy State Secretary of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office; and Alexandra Fishel, ESJF Educational Projects Officer.
Dr. Beatrix Basics, Dr. Ágnes Szegő, Andrea Bardi-Kovács, Miksa Winkler, and Ferenc Hanula were our lecturers. And special thanks go to Rabbi Zev Paskesz for leading the guided tour of the Orthodox Synagogue and the Orthodox Jewish cemetery, and to Kovács Krisztina for the tour of the synagogue archive.

This national seminar on Jewish cemetery preservation was organised in cooperation with the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities, with an incredible coordination by Mária Baranyi, and was made possible through the financial support of the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office).
We believe that by bringing people together through such educational seminars, we are creating a community that will ensure the sustainable protection of Jewish cemeteries!
