ESJF continues to find success rolling out its educational programme online.
An ESJF teacher training event was originally scheduled to take place in Chișinău on the 13th of March 2020. However, on March 10th, ESJF received word from Julia Sheinman, Director of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, informing us that the event was cancelled due to the Minister of Health’s statement on COVID-19.
Over the next month, ESJF worked to adapt its remaining educational events to an online format, and we are delighted to say the rescheduled event went ahead yesterday. The webinar, designed to help educators introduce Jewish heritage to their classrooms in a thoughtful, engaging way, included a lecture on Jewish history from Karger Galina, Director of the International Centre for Training and Professional Development, followed by a lesson on reading Jewish tombstones from Dr. Alexandra Fishel and Olga Sivak, and finally a discussion of the Holocaust memorials of Bessarabia and Transnistria with Goncharova Tatiana. The webinar was attended by 20 teachers from Chișinău, Călărași, Glodeni, Bălți, and Cantemir.
The webinar received positive feedback, and ESJF has already received informal requests from participants about similar online events in the future, something we hope to accommodate, given the response to this first trial event.
We would like to thank the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, the Moldovan Ministry of Education, and the International Centre for Training and Professional Development, as well as everyone who took part, for making the event such a success.
