Led by Gabriella Dohi, seventh-grade students from the Hungarian-German Elementary School Esterházy Móric in Csákvár, accompanied by their teachers and several members of the Friends of the Vértes Museum, learned about the role of Jewish cemeteries in Jewish life, as well as the symbols and inscriptions found on gravestones.
Afterwards, they visited the cemetery, recently fenced by the ESJF, where they were able to see for themselves what they had just learned about.

They were fascinated to find familiar Jewish names from Csákvár on the gravestones and placed stones on the graves as a sign of respect. They walked among the graves with adoration. The wonderful natural environment at the foot of the Vértes Mountains, reddened by sumac, contributed to the festive atmosphere. Several of them indicated that they would like to visit the cemetery again.
We would like to thank the school’s director Ms. Szajkóné Megyesi Bernadett, the teachers (Ms. Némediné Varga Judit and Mr. Nádori László).
We are also thankful Ms. Árpádné Tóth from the Friends of the Vértes Museum, for their warm welcome and our country coordinator Ms. Maria Baranyi for organizing this event.
Both the workshop and the fencing project at the Csákvár Jewish cemetery were made possible with the financial support of the Auswärtiges Amt (German Federal Foreign Office).
