The conference brought together around 60 Jewish studies researchers from across Ukraine and abroad.
Preserving Jewish historical heritage in Ukraine is of immediate importance! This is reflected in the interest shown in the educational events at the Jewish cemeteries, held by the ESJF.
The first event took place at the Jewish cemetery in Smotrych, Khmelnytskyi region, Ukraine, where the ESJF installed a new fence a few years ago. Schoolteachers, cultural workers, and representatives of the local authorities — including the head of the settlement, Ihor Yalokha — took part in the cemetery tour!
Later that same day, another excursion took place at the Jewish cemetery in Zhvanets, also in the Khmelnytskyi region. This time, over 30 local school students and their teachers, as well as local residents interested in the history of their region joined the event. The ESJF is truly grateful to our guide, Eugene Levinzon, for leading these engaging tours of the Jewish cemeteries, and to Elena Zaslavskaya for facilitating the events.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) for funding both the installation of the fence around the Smotrych Jewish cemetery and the educational events.
These educational events were combined with an excursion for participants of the International Scientific Conference «East European Jewry: History, Culture, Traditions», where the ESJF was a partner. Visiting the Jewish cemeteries in Smotrych and Zhvanets became the concluding and practical part of the event.
