Completed the fencing of the Jewish cemetery in Transylvania

The Năsăud Jewish cemetery (located on Strada Comoara) was established in the mid-19th century. More than one hundred tombstones have been preserved to this day and are now protected by a new metal fence.

The first Jewish settlement on the territory of present-day Năsăud, in the area historically known as Jidovița, appeared in the early 17th century. For a long period, Jidovița was inhabited almost exclusively by Jews, who made up approximately 80-90% of the population.

Another Jewish cemetery in Năsăud, located on Strada Lușca, lies on the territory of the former village of Lușca. Today, around 300 tombstones remain at the site, with the oldest preserved ones dating back to the 1780s.

The fencing project at the Năsăud Jewish cemetery was carried out by ESJF in cooperation with Avoseinu, with the funding of the German Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt).
