Last week, a ceremony of rededication was held at the Jewish cemetery in Csákvár in Hungary to mark the completion of the fencing of this site by the ESJF in cooperation with our partners MAZSIHISZ-Magyarországi Zsidó Hitközségek Szövetsége, the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities and with the generous financial support of the Auswärtiges Amt Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Speakers at this event included Hungary’s Minister for EU Affairs Bóka János, who also holds the government portfolio for combatting antisemitism and enhancing Jewish life in Hungary, German Ambassador Julia Gross German Embassy Budapest, Israeli Deputy Ambassador Moran Birman, Mazsihisz President Professor Dr. Andor Grosz, Csakvar Mayor Illes Szabolsz, Chief Rabbi Dr. Robert Frohlich, and ESJF Chief Executive Officer Philip Carmel.

The event, which gathered together local people and many members of the Budapest Jewish community heard of the history of the Jewish community of Csakvar, its contribution to local life and culture and its ultimate destruction during the Shoah.
Our deep thanks to our national coordinator in Hungary Maria Baranyi and to the Csakvar municipality for the organisation of this moving event.
