The ESJF visits Bricheny, Moldova for educational event under German funding

At the start of the month, the ESJF’s educational team visited the Bricheny Jewish cemetery in Moldova, which we fenced in 2021 under funding from the Auswärtiges Amt While the exact period of the cemetery’s foundation is unknown, it is thought to have already existed by the end of the 18th century. The cemetery has between 2,000 and 3,000 existing tombstones and is still in use today.

Around 40 secondary school students from Bricheny came to the ESJF’s educational event to learn about Jewish customs and traditions as well as how to decipher symbols on headstones at their local Jewish cemetery. We thank everyone who attended as well as our Moldovan educator, Irina Shikhova, for organising this event.
