The ESJF visited Sochocin, Poland as part of educational tour funded by the German Foreign Office

Last week as part of the ESJF’s tour around Poland to host educational events at Jewish cemeteries previously fenced under funding from the Auswärtiges Amt, the ESJF team visited Sochocin on 27th April.

The event was opened by Jerzy Józef Ryziński, the local Mayor. After a short lecture by Yulia Oreshina, Associate Professor at the Georgian American University, participants visited the Sochocin Jewish cemetery. The event was also attended by local administration Urząd Miasta i Gminy Sochocin and the local cultural centre Miejsko – Gminny Ośrodek Kultury w Sochocinie.

The secretary of the City and Municipality of Sochocin, Elżbieta Krauze, together with the director of the local cultural centre, Kryspin Kadej shared with Yulia Oreshina their own memories about the town’s Jewish life as well as valuable documents and exhibitions related to the past.
