Yesterday the ESJF started a series of educational events across towns in Poland revisiting Jewish cemeteries that were previously fenced under funding from the Auswärtiges Amt. The first stop on the tour was Nowe Miasto.
The event was opened by Sławomir Zalewski , the local Mayor. After a short lecture to a group of local school children by Yulia Oreshina, Associate Professor at the Georgian American University, participants visited the Nowe Miasto Jewish cemetery. The event was also attended by local administration Urząd Miasta i Gminy Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą and the local cultural center Wiejski Ośrodek Kultury.
We thank you all for finding the time to participate and for highlighting the importance of Jewish heritage at the local level. We also would like to thank Paweł Słupski, Yulia and Alexandra Fishel in particular for supporting the organisation of this event!
