Representatives of the Foreign Office of Germany and the German Embassy in Ukraine visit ESJF headquarters

From the 17th-18th of September, the ESJF hosted Ms Michaela Küchler, the Special Representative for Relations with Jewish Organisations, Antisemitism issues, Sinti and Roma, and Holocaust Remembrance from the German Foreign Office, and Ms Christina Foerster, first secretary for human rights and related issues at the German Embassy in Ukraine.

During the visit, Ms Küchler and Ms Foerster visited the ESJF office. They were presented with the results of the fencing work which has been carried out under the annual grant ESJF has received from the German Federal State since 2015. The methodology behind the survey work, historical research, and 3D modelling carried out as part of the European Commission pilot project was also explained. The guests then discussed the ESJF’s vision for the future with Chief Executive Officer Philip Carmel.

The visit was followed by an excursion to Borodianka, where Ms Küchler and Ms Foerster were shown round the Jewish cemetery ESJF fenced in 2015. This was the second fencing project ever carried out by the organisation, during which we developed a fruitful working relationship with Mayor Alexander Sakharuk.

We are extremely grateful for this visit and the opportunity it gave us to share our results.
