Rededication ceremony at Vyshkovo Jewish Cemetery, Ukrainian Transcapathia

On Thursday, May 25th, the ESJF held a rededication ceremony at the Vyshkovo Jewish cemetery in Zakarpatia oblast. A group of former residents of the village, now living in Israel and Germany, travelled specially for the event.

ESJF Chief Executive Officer Philip Carmel addressed the gathering alongside the Mayor of Vyshkovo Yaroslav Hayovych and Eduard Berger. Kaddish and memorial prayers were said at the site by representatives of the nearby Jewish community in Khust. ESJF Education Coordinator Natalia Videneeva and ESJF Zakarpatia Coordinator Ian Galevskii were also in attendance.

The event provided a unique opportunity for the village’s former residents to meet up with some of their former classmates.

We would like to express our gratitude to Mayor Hayovych for all his help and encouragement on the project, as well as his heartfelt address at the ceremony. Sincere thanks as well to Eduard and all the former Zakarpatians who were able to attend, who made this such a moving experience.
