Rededication ceremony at Vyshkovo Jewish Cemetery, Ukrainian Transcapathia

On Thursday, May 25, the ESJF held a ceremony of rededication at the Jewish cemetery of Vyshkovo in Zakarpatia oblast, in SW Ukraine. A group of former residents of the village, now living in Israel and Germany, came specially for the event.

ESJF Chief Executive Officer Philip Carmel addressed the gathering alongside the Mayor of VyshkovoYaroslav Hayovych and Eduard Berger. Kaddish and memorial prayers were said at the site by representatives of the nearby Jewish community in Khust. ESJF Education Coordinator Natalia Videneeva and ESJF Zakarpatia Coordinator Ian Galevskii also attended.

The event provided a unique opportunity as well for the former residents of the village to meet up with some of their former classmates.

The ESJF thanks Mayor Yaroslav Hayovych for all his help and encouragement for this project and his kind and heartfelt address at the ceremony. We are also grateful to Eduard and all the former Zakarpatians, who made this such a moving experience.
