Historical overview

The date of the cemetery founding is unknown, but it was marked on Russian maps of the mid-19th century. The cemetery was abandoned and damaged after WWII.

Jews settled in Tsikhinichy in the late 18th century. In 1789, there were 90 Jews here. In 1800, the Jewish community numbered 542 people and owned 66 houses. In 1897, there were 687 Jews in Tsikhinichy and a synagogue existed here. In September 1915, an extensive fire destroyed residential properties and two synagogues. In the 1920s, eleven Jewish families worked on the town’s collective farm. In 1929, local residents organized a pogrom against their Jewish neighbors.
Tsikhinichy was occupied by the Nazis in July 1941. Atsome point during the following fall, the Jews were murdered.
