ESJF to fence Jewish Cemetery of Lyubavichi (Lubavitch)

The letter of authorisation from Rudnya Raion Administration of Smolensk Regional Council of the Russian Federation to go ahead with the fencing of the Jewish cemetery in Lyubavichi arrives at our office in Kyiv. This is a special project done by the ESJF in collaboration with our partners Geder Avos Jewish Heritage Group. Special thanks to Rabbi Moshe Rubin for initiating and being the driving force behind this project. The third and fourth rebbes of the Chabad Chassidic dynasty are buried in Lyubavichi, once the centre of the movement in the 19th and early 20th centuries and from which it takes its name. During WWII, the Nazis murdered almost 500 Jews in Lyubavichi, effectively ending Jewish community life in the village.
