ESJF publishes complete survey of the Jewish cemeteries of Zakarpattia region in SW Ukraine

ESJF has published its complete survey of the Jewish cemeteries in the Zakarpattia region (Carpathian-Rus/Transcarpathia) of SW Ukraine.

Field work on the region’s 240 Jewish cemeteries was performed during expeditions over the last three years. The region has by far the highest density of Jewish cemeteries in modern Ukraine and possibly, the highest density of Jewish cemeteries in the world, reflecting the unique historical spread of Jewish communities in the region. To date, the ESJF has fenced 42 cemeteries in Zakarpattia.
