ESJF launches projects in Romania

Yesterday, ESJF surveyors crossed the Ukrainian border into the Maramores region of Romania. They will be surveying 11 sites in the Romanian Carpathians with a view to begin constructing fencing in the coming weeks and months. This represents the ESJF’s first foray into preserving the Jewish cemeteries of Romania, and is being carried out in cooperation with our local partners, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania (FEDROM). While we had arrived expecting spring weather up here in the Carpathians, we were instead greeted by a sudden flurry of winter weather.

Here, the team can be seen at the Jewish cemetery in Borsa (Borsza).
