ESJF education programmes underway in Volyhn region in North-Western Ukraine

ESJF Historical Research Officer Kate Malakhova addressed school students today in Lutsk, capital of the Volyhn region of NW Ukraine.

These lectures and school visits are part of the ESJF’s educational initiatives, designed to mobilise young people to care for and preserve the heritage of former Jewish communities in their own areas, and to contextualise them within the tapestry of Ukraine’s rich national and local heritage.

Students were taught about local Jewish history, with a particular focus on Jewish cemeteries and their protection. Four high schools in Lutsk are taking part in this project, which follows on from several successful projects organised by ESJF in the neighbouring Rivne region.
