Chief executive Philip Carmel was invited to speak at the Kyiv Jewish Forum.
The forum is a major international event organised by the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine, held between the 5th and the 7th of May. It was the first event of its kind in Kyiv, bringing together Jewish leaders from across the world to discuss the most pressing issues facing the community. Guests included the president of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald S. Lauder; Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combatting Anti-Semitism, Elan Carr; the President of the National Endowment for Democracy, Carl Gershman; the President of the Commonwealth Jewish Council, Lord Mendelsohn; and well known Israeli human rights activist Natan Sharansky.
Philip talked about the ESJF’s mission to protect Jewish cemeteries across Europe, speaking on the ever-present risks of desecration and encroachment, as well as the importance of engaging local communities and authorities if we are to achieve long-term, sustainable results.
