Chief executive Philip Carmel was invited to speak at the Kyiv Jewish Forum.
The forum is a major international event organised by the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine, held 5-7 May. It was the first event of its kind in Kyiv, that brought together Jewish leaders from across the world to discuss the most pressing issues that concern the community. Guests included the president of the World Jewish Congress Ronald S. Lauder, Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combatting Anti-Semitism Elan Carr, the President of the National Endowment for Democracy Carl Gershman, the President of the Commonwealth Jewish Council Lord Mendelsohn, and the well known Israeli human rights activist Natan Sharansky.
Philip talked about the ESJF mission to protect Jewish cemeteries in Europe. He warned about risks like desecration and encroachment, and the importance of engaging local communities and local authorities if we are to achieve long-term, sustainable results.
