This week an educational event took place in Pаstavy, Belarus. The ESJF fenced and protected the Pаstavy Jewish cemetery in 2021 under funding from the Auswärtiges Amt.
The event was held at the Pаstavy Museum and organised by the director of the museum Valentina Drus, bringing together the representatives of the Jewish community of Mogilev, Ida Shenderovich and Alex Litin with teachers, journalists, ideology workers, veterans’ societies and librarians.
After talking about Jewish cemeteries as historical and cultural monuments, the participants discussed the state of Jewish cemeteries in neighbouring towns and villages. Despite the rain, the participants took a trip to the Jewish cemetery to learn more about their local Jewish history, which the museum now plans to include in a new exhibition.
Thank you to all who supported the organisation of this event and for attending to learn more about the importance of preserving jewish cemeteries!
