Historical overview

The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. The cemetery is clearly marked on the Russian map of 1860s and later maps. Presumably, it is also marked on the town plan of 1780s. The cemetery already existed in mid-19th century. Most probably, it emerged much earlier, in early 19th or late 18th century. The cemetery was used until WWII and ruined during the war. The Jewish section on Reyivs’ke municipal cemetery was opened on the part of the territory of the Old Jewish cemetery, which had been demolished. It has proven impossible to determine the point of separation between the stones from Kremenchuk Old Jewish cemetery and the Jewish section on the municipal cemetery.
